Check your exact renewal date
The single source of truth is Your Memberships and Subscriptions, reachable from Your Account. It lists your active, canceled, and expired subscriptions, each with its renewal date and price. The Prime membership page shows the same date with the management options next to it. On that screen, eligible subscriptions carry an Auto-Renew on/off control that stops the next charge before the renewal date without ending your current benefits early. Whether you pay monthly or once a year, the date shown is the next time Amazon will charge you. If you have already canceled, that same screen shows your membership end date, the last day your benefits stay active.
Annual renewals: the reminder question
The annual membership is the one that catches people out, because the charge can land a full year after you last thought about it. Do not count on a heads-up email. Amazon’s own terms say it will collect the renewal fee “without notice to you, unless required by applicable law,” so an advance reminder is not something the company guarantees everywhere. Amazon may send you Prime-related emails, but there is no promised “your renewal is coming” notice you can lean on. The dependable move is to read the renewal date off your account and set your own reminder, well ahead of an annual charge.
Trial ending: when the first charge lands
A free trial converts to a paid membership at the end of the trial period, and that is when the first charge lands. Your trial’s end date is shown as the renewal date in Your Memberships and Subscriptions. If you do not want to continue, turn off auto-renew or cancel before that date; trial members are free to choose not to move to a paid membership. Turning off auto-renew during a trial keeps your benefits until the trial ends, then simply stops.
Renew, fail, or cancel
If your card is declined at renewal, Amazon tries the other payment methods on file. If they all fail, you have to add a valid method promptly or the membership is canceled, and if a later charge succeeds, your new period is still dated from the original renewal date, not the day it finally went through. If you cancel, your benefits normally run to the end of the paid period, unless you have used no Prime benefits since your last charge, in which case you may get a refund and end sooner. Channels renew on their own dates
Prime Video add-on subscriptions, still widely called Channels, bill separately from Prime and each has its own renewal date. You will find them listed in Your Memberships and Subscriptions and inside Prime Video’s channel management, with their own dates and prices. Canceling one works a little differently: if Amazon offers a self-service refund and you accept it, the channel ends immediately; otherwise it runs to the end date shown on the confirmation screen, then stops.
