If your vehicle is registered in one of 13 metro Atlanta counties, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding, or Rockdale, you need a passing emissions inspection on file before you can renew your tag. The requirement covers 2002-2023 model-year gasoline cars and light trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 8,500 pounds or less. Get the inspection done before you try to renew, not after; renewal cannot go through without it.
